giving tuesdayWith just one more day to go until the dedicated giving back holiday, #Giving Tuesday, we would like to take the time and look at some facts about the previous edition of Giving Tuesday from 2012.

While we already wrote about GT and 123FormBuilder’s support for this movement, here are a few things you might not have known on this initiative:

• the first Giving Tuesday ever was celebrated on the 27th of November, chosen as the first Tuesday after three already known holidays: Thanksgiving, Black Friday and Cyber Monday
everybody was encouraged to participate in #GT, whether they were nonprofits, companies or individuals
support could be expressed in more than one way – by raising awareness over a cause, volunteering within a local charity organization or donating to a preferred cause
• 2012 brought together over 2,500 partners from all 50 U.S. states in the Giving Tuesday movement
popular names like Facebook, Mashable, Groupon, the Case Foundation, the William Morris Agency and Variety played a key role for #GT by bringing together influencers from the social good sector, who organized    nationwide meetings
• several corporate partners adhered to the initiative: Microsoft, JP Morgan Chase, Cisco, Gap, Discovery, Mashable, Unilever
nonprofits which decided to join and support #GT were also numerous: charity: water, the Salvation Army (RED), United Way, DonorsChoose.org, VolunteerMatch, GiveWell, Charity Navigator and others
donations increased significantly compared to the year before (we’re talking about a rise between 46% and 487% for specific donation channels)
• the social media echo gathered 2.5 million impressions and the hashtag #GivingTuesday was an international trend on the 27th of November with 185,000 mentions
• Bill Gates, the Clinton Foundation and the White House were among the political celebrities who officially supported the movement by talking about it on their blogs and social media
press coverage for Giving Tuesday generated 59 million impressions and hit major channels like Forbes, Mashable, the Huffington Post, ABC News, CBS, the Los Angeles Times, the Washington Post, USA Today
• official support was expressed by the U.S. Mayors of Chicago, New York and Philadelphia

Wondering how this year’s #GivingTuesday looks like so far? Here is some preliminary data:

over 8,000 partners have already declared their participation in #GT
• the movement gained more international presence and can now be found in 7 countries United States, Canada, Australia, Latin America, Mexico, Singapore, Israel.

Our hopes move toward seeing  other companies do something for #GT next year, so that we can bring the movement also to Romania. As for this year, we have finished our Giving Tuesday preparations and are eagerly awaiting to meet the children tomorrow who will receive a little gift from us. By doing so, we hope that we can give a little something back to our local community and that next year more people will adhere to support this beautiful and altruistic initiative.
