Tips & Hacks to Spice Up Your Joomla! Forms

by 123FormBuilder

The beauty of Joomla is that you can use its framework to the full without concerning about the code that lies behind. Same with 123FormBuilder. You just create web forms visually, implement them on your Joomla page and start receiving visitor messages. And this is just the top of the iceberg. There’s an array of settings and actions that can improve the flexibility and friendliness of your Joomla forms, all without asking you to write a single line of code.

Let’s have a look upon a couple of these little form tweaks that will help you achieve great effects within your Joomla page.

Migrate your Joomla forms with ease

If you are upgrading from Joomla 1.5 to a newer version (which, by the way, we highly recommend), you are probably asking yourself “What happens with my forms and the other extensions I’m using?” In which concerns your 123FormBuilder, the job is simple – you just download and install the extension for the next corresponding version, Joomla 2.5, and use it to publish forms from then on. Of course, the forms you’ve already created are available in your 123FormBuilder account. For any other extensions you may be using, check out this guide.

Owners of multiple Joomla sites can install the extension and display their forms across all sites, since forms are always accessible in the 123FormBuilder dashboard. Things can go even faster if you use a special Joomla extension such as JMS Multisites which allows you to manage all the content and extensions with a single Joomla installation.

Did we mention that when you modify a form on 123FormBuilder, updates reflect in real time on Joomla? Okay, you already know that.

Publish forms in slick lightboxes

You may sometimes get bored with the classical form embedding. If you fancy the elegant lightboxes or those floating buttons on the side of the page, well, you can have them with 123FormBuilder! You will need to do a bit of editing on the Joomla settings in order to allow our code to take effect, but it’s plain and simple. To see precisely how to do it, take a look inside our Help and Documentation section.

Track form hits with Google Analytics

You may sometimes need to keep track of visitors who opened your form and monitor their search preferences. For this task, Google Analytics is a perfect tool to use. To synchronize it with your Joomla forms it’s piece of cake – in fact, you can put Analytics code on any form you create, regardless where you plan to publish it.

To enable the Google Analytics integration for a form, go to its Settings > Notifications and you will find an option to Insert Google Analytics code on the page (it’s right under the Confirmation Settings). Tick that box and insert your Google Analytics Profile ID in the box that appears below. Your form page is now tracked in Analytics. To view its stats, you need the form URL – in the form editor, press View then copy it from the address box of your browser. In your GA account, you can see the traffic on your form if you go to Content > Site Content > All Pages and paste the form URL in the search box.

Happy form building, you Joomla nuts! 🙂
