An Evening with Nahid Sewell
Author of “The Ruby Tear Catcher: An Iranian Women’s Story of Intolerance”
Friday, September 15, 2017
5-7pm at the Victoria Golf Club

Join us for An Evening with Nahid Sewell, award-winning writer, speaker and author of The Ruby Tear Catcher: An Iranian Woman’s Story of Intolerance. Nahid will offer a glimpse into how the Middle East has become the breeding ground of fundamentalism. Describing life in Iran before and after the Islamic Revolution, her story evokes images of blue-tiled mosques, Persian kings, the taste of lamb kabob and saffron rice in contrast with curfews, gun-toting soldiers, compulsory hijab, and an insatiable quest for freedom. Describing the radical changes under Islamic rule, Nahid charts the social, cultural, political and religious changes that have taken shape in her country in the past thirty years, with particular emphasis on their impact on women.

The evening includes a wine and cheese reception, the presentation and short reading, question and answer period, book signing, silent auction and door prizes.

Tickets $50 (Charitable Receipt for $25). We welcome donations in support of Victoria Women’s Transition House. A tax receipt for the full amount of the gift will be provided. Please see below.
